A couple of years ago Dana and I did the Clean program and loved it. We both felt really healthy and light after completing the cleanse, which was created by Dr. Junger, who also wrote the best-selling book Clean. Ever since then, I’ve loved making smoothies and I’ve had to make do with the blender I have which is a basic, middle-of-the-road blender (it does the job). But my dream blender is a Vitamix. It’s the top-of-the-line machine and you’ll see it on cooking shows and in cooking demonstrations on TV. It’s so good that it’s pretty expensive ($449 – $649 is the price range for the product line) which is why it remains on my wish list and I haven’t bought one.
So when my cousin told me she recently bought herself one I was really excited. She made us a batch of green smoothies over the weekend and it was really delicious (even our skeptical cousin loved it and she didn’t even want to know what was in the smoothie until she was done drinking it).
Elena’s Power Green Smoothie Recipe:
- 1 Orange (navel)
- ½ Apple
- 1 Carrot
- 5-6 Strawberries
- Handful of Spinach
- 1 Banana
- 1 Baby Summer Squash
- 1 Kale Leaf
- 1 Tablespoon of Flax Seed
- Scoop of Ice
Blend to desired consistency (this one needs to be blended a bit longer to break down the spinach). You will definitely need the “plunger” tool (if using the Vitamix).
I have to say, this smoothie was delicious. The taste reminded me a lot of the “Green Goodness” smoothie Bolthouse Farms makes which I love. Even if you don’t have a Vitamix but you have a decent blender, you should try this recipe, it’s yummy!
