Cat Cora: Around the World in 80 Plates and a Trip to the Dressing Room (please!)

Posted in Closet, The Kitchen Sink (random)

Yes, we’re sexy chefs. And what?

So there’s a new show that’s coming out soon on Bravo, called Around the World in 80 Plates. I’m sure you’ve seen the preview while watching The Real Housewives of Atlanta Reunion Show. How quickly things change. This time last year I was hating on Phaedra and her pastel eye shadow and lip gloss, while cheering on Nene. Now I am sickened by NeNe’s ridiculous nose job and Phaedra (although still tacky), doesn’t look too bad. I have to say I love Bravo: Top Chef, Watch What Happens Live, Housewives (BH and ATL) and Million Dollar Listing. True classics. And now they’re adding a new show, starring Cat Cora and Curtis Stone.

And about that Cat Cora. I love her. I really do. I love that she is a woman Iron Chef. And I love that she is a kick ass chef, endorsing McCormick seasonings, and doing it all with a strong country accent. I love it.

The premise of the new show is that 12 chefs will travel across the globe in various cooking challenges. The chef-testants will go to a different international city where they’ll try their hand at the local cuisine. The face-off challenge will be a kitchen-takeover where they will recreate and innovate on the menus for world-renowned restaurants. Sounds like fun. For the viewers. And knowing Bravo, there will be a heavy dose of drama mixed in. Cat Cora talked about the show with Time, and it sounds like it’s going to be awesome.

It makes me think of this Porlandia clip, where they go to a restaurant that tries to serve international cuisine, to a fault. What’s that? You don’t know Portlandia? Umm…you need to get on it. It’s HILARIOUS.

But please, let’s talk about this God-awful dress that she’s wearing in the promo posters. What genius at Bravo thought this was a good idea? The dress is extremely unflattering, unless you have no hips at all. And trust me, a woman chef from the South does not fall into this category. Some poor stylist is losing her job as we speak.

On the New York City subways, on most of the posters, some kind soul had blacked out the white portions of the dress. Those fashionable New Yorkers can’t even stand for their posters to be out of vogue. What’s curious is that this shot, from Bravo’s site, seems to have a little photoshopping going on as well. Thank goodness. They  made her arms look kick-ass too.

I’ll be watching the show. Provided this fashion disaster doesn’t happen again.

Around the World in 80 Plates is on Bravo starting May 9th at 10PM.

Enjoy!

Love that I’m not the only one that thought her dress was hideous! It gives her the look of having a big pot belly!!! Thank goodness for photoshop! :)

      1. Dana says:

I know! Anything that accentuates the midsection and hips is a no go in my book. Someone lost their job over that dress, mark my words. Ah, nothing like focusing on the pot belly. Ha!

I too, am glad someone pointed out how hideous that dress was. I cringe every time I see that commercial.

maybe the dress was supposed to get your attention, made for a memorable commercial, tho the first time i saw it i was too distracted by the dress to notice what was being advertised, then looked for it later to see what it was for

True. Brilliant marketing, I suppose. Or mistake gone right..

[...] amateurs that I couldn’t handle. I am more of a regular Top Chef girl, and I also am loving Around the World in 80 Plates. But in a few weeks, I decided that I’m going to give the masters another shot. And once I [...]

I agree….those dresses are hideous! Love the show though!

Yes! I agree! Love it. Something about Nookie bothers me — he’s always looking for a quick fix. I don’t even know who I want to win. But combining how much I love to travel and how much I love food, you’ve got me hooked. As if I needed a reason — I watch Bravo 24 hours a day.
