Summer Must-Haves

Posted in Closet

I love summer. Even though I still have to work straight through and don’t get the summers off, I still pretend I do. I always get a few things that make me feel like I’m enjoying the weather when I’m inside at my desk. Here’s my list:

1. Tangerine Lipstick: Fresh has a great new coral colored Sugar Lip Balm for something sheer. But for something more opaque, try Sephora + Pantone Universe Tangerine Tango Cream. Pantone came up with the actual color itself, so you can pretty much trust that it’s on trend.

2. The Summer Bun: Super easy. If you don’t have a ton of hair that you can just wrap around itself, like this model, look for bobby pins that blend in with your hair. Try Redken Tousle Whip Cream Wax to keep all those hairs in place, even in humidity.

3. Blue Nail Polish: Try blue polish like Bikini So Teeny from Essie. The color is light and reminds me of the ocean, and it’s a little different than your typical pinks and corals. It’s nice to have a little pop of color to set things off.

4. Summer Fragrance: I’m not really a perfume girl, but I love having a summer scent that’s light and citrus-y. Example? Fresh’s Hesperides Grapefruit Eau de Parfum. This fragrance mixes citrus with grapefruit, lotus and jasmine. Yum.

5. Jellies! What summer is complete without jellies? I used to rock the hell out of jellies when I was little. And now I do the same thing. Jellies are perfect in that they can get wet with no issues. The Melissa company, based in Brazil, makes 100% plastic shoes in a sustainable way. And they make stylish shoes too! Check out these Melissa Campana shoes. Love!

August Inspiration: Summer

Posted in Closet, Dining, Kitchen

Christina and I wanted to give you some inspiration for the summer, as we’ve been shopping nonstop since it started. We both live on the coasts, where summers are glorious on the water, and it’s the perfect season to throw dinner parties. No one can complain about snow, it being too cold out to travel, or that there aren’t a ton of fresh things to eat. I personally love summer. I love flip flops, sleeveless dresses and all of the amazing things that come with the season: cookouts, fruity drinks and outdoor brunch. Nothing could be better than sitting at a sidewalk table, eating French toast with fresh berries and endless mimosas while watching cars pollute the air you breathe. Well, nothing, except these finds that will remind you of summer all year long.

1. Stonewall Kitchen Raspberry Peach Champagne Jam: This jam screams summer — I mean raspberries and peaches? This is perfect with a triple crème cheese like a Pierre Robert or St. Andre. Serve with almonds and chilled champagne for a perfect summer snack.

2.Melissa + Vivienne Westwood Skyscraper Pumps: One thing I love about being a host is that I get to make up excuses to buy new things. Like these Melissa shoes. Melissa is a Brazilian company that  manufactures plastic shoes. All Melissa shoes are made with zero waste and the overstock are recycled into the next season’s collections. They partner with designers for collections that will both be sold at retail and end up in the designer’s Fashion Week shows. As if you  needed a reason to buy a Vivienne Westwood pump….

3. Kobo Fresh Current Candle: These Kobo candles are soy based, with fun flavors like champagne ginger, white birch rosemary and the one we love: fresh currant. The packaging is delicious inside and out and the scents are amazing. This makes your summer party smell fragrant. Buy this at one of my favorite places, Apartment 48 in NYC.

4. Supersexy Cuff from Rent the Runway: Of course, you have to accessorize with your amazing shoes. I like to pair accessories that “go” versus “match”. Not feeling like committing to a full purchase? You can rent jewelry from Rent the Runway. This bracelet makes a statement and rents for $65.

5. Watermelon Sorbetto with Basil Gelee: To cool off in the summer, sorbet is so much better than dairy. This recipe for watermelon sorbetto is amazing. So I understand that everyone may not have an ice cream maker… Interested in buying some from a vendor, instead of making it yourself? Try Pitango Gelateria in Capitol Hill in DC for summer flavors like lemon, peach, rhubarb and white grapefruit.

6. Recipe Journal from Anthropologie: I’ve written before about my love of recipe cards. And I also love this fun, summery journal. What a great idea to house all of your summer-specific recipes. Get another one for fall — save this one for your fruity, summery, light recipes.

Have Fun!
